The CAS said that the hearings on the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva will begin in August 2023
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced the date for the start of hearings in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, accused of violating anti-doping rules. This was announced by the press secretary of the organization, whose words in Twitter cited by American journalist Christine Brennan.
Brennan said the meetings would not take place until August 2023 at the earliest. The journalist called the delay ridiculous.
On January 13, the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, which is an independent body from the main organization, informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of Valieva’s innocence. At the same time, the skater was deprived of the gold of the Russian Championship-2022. Later, the International Skating Union and WADA appealed to CAS, calling for the athlete to be disqualified and her results canceled.
At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found.
