Sporting easily wins Rio Ave for the Portuguese Championship

O Sporting beat Rio Ave 3-0 for the Portuguese Championship, this Saturday, playing at home. Pedro Gonçalves (2) and Matheus Nunes scored the goals of the match.

With the result, Sporting reached four points in the competition, after two rounds played, and rose to second place. Rio Ave, in turn, still hasn’t scored points.

The hosts controlled the game from start to finish. With more ball possession and volume, the team reached the first goal in the 36th minute of the first half, when Pedro Gonçalves was freed and finished with ease.

In the final stage, Matheus Nunes widened in a beautiful long-distance kick, which hit the left corner of the goal. At 30, Pedro Gonçalves appeared again to score, this time getting the better of the one-on-one duel with the goalkeeper.

Afterwards, Sporting travels to face the Porto, next Saturday, August 20th, at 4:30 pm (Brasília time). Rio Ave plays away from home against Estoril, on Friday, at 16:15.

Also this Saturday, the Benfica beat Casa Pia 1-0 with a goal by Gonçalo Ramos and remained at the top of the championship. The match also featured the expulsion of defender Otamendi in the final minutes.
