Statements by Carlos Alfaro Moreno, president of Sporting Club Barcelona, about the “brain drain” from Guayas to other clubs in the country provoked a reaction from Santiago Morales, the head of Independiente del Valle.
The controversy started when it became known that the creative midfielder from Guayaquil Kendry Páez, the figure of the Ecuadorian team in the South American U-17, started his career at Alfara Moreno school, and while they were part of Barcelona it was not federal.
Kendry Páez’s talent was discovered at the Alfaro Moreno Academy when he was 8 years old, but Barcelona SC did not unite him
“The code between the clubs has been lost,” Alfaro Moreno says of the brain drain from the courses in Guayaquil
At the regular assembly of Barcelona members on Monday, May 1, on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of the foundation of the institution, Alfaro Moreno’s statements about the young elements in the youth ranks of the team came to light.
“The intergalactic champions offered them money, you have to live with these unfair practices,” Carlos Alfaro Moreno complains of the club’s intention to take two young players from Barcelona SC
“Not all of them are talent coaches, they say. There are youngsters whose parents are offered $30,000 to take that talent to their club; while we can offer them transport, housing and scholarships to study, they offer them money that changes their lives. The fight against these illegal practices is very difficult, but we have to live with it,” said the toreador director.
Kendry Páez: Is there systematic talent theft or leadership neglect?
After this comment was leaked, the Canarian president told the media: “The issues discussed in the assembly are private and are not part of a press conference that should be public. There is a topic we talked about with the members about the brain drain, about the situations we experienced as a club, but not targeting Independiente del Valle”.
That being said, Morales was working on the radio Mesh: “We have a good relationship with Alfaro Moreno, not from today, (but) for some time. We made some deals with him with his academy and the club he leads today. I was surprised by what he said.”
“Then he came out and said it wasn’t against Independiente. I repeat: I was surprised. There are many boys who want to come to our club. When someone interests us, we go talk to the team management,” he continued.
He also pointed out: “We have evidence and signed documents about the work we did with him. Alfaro Moreno is very serious; We don’t know what happened to him. We have not spoken to the parents of Jhon Neid Acurio and Allen Obando.”
And he noted: “Sometimes people take the name Independiente to try to improve the contract. We continue to invest in football. We are already working on our high performance center in Esmeraldas”.
Nine months ago, Lucía Vallecilla, president of El Nacional, said on the capital’s radio Coverage: “Independiente took players from El Nacional; warms the parents’ ears and drains them. I’m talking with documents. This also happened in Macara. It is one thing to do business between the leaders, and another thing is to listen to the parents and come to an agreement with them. They only pay us for training rights”. (D)
