Inside the Games: Ukrainian weightlifters may miss the 2024 Olympics due to doping
Ukrainian weightlifters are at risk of missing the 2024 Olympic Games due to doping violations. It is reported by Inside the Games.
As it became known to the source, on March 10, banned hydrochlorothiazide was found in the out-of-competition test of the world and European champion in the weight category up to 81 kilograms Alina Marushchak. The athlete was given a temporary suspension.
Maruschak became the third Ukrainian athlete who violated doping rules after the 2020 Games. Previously, Ruslan Kozhakin and Bogdan Taranenko passed positive tests. Athletes face a four-year disqualification, but they still have the opportunity to prove their innocence.
According to the rules of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the quota of the national federation can be withdrawn if three or more doping violations are committed between July 23, 2021 and July 25, 2024. Thus, the Ukrainian team may miss the Games in Paris.
The Summer Olympic Games in the French capital are to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
