The International Judo Federation allowed the Russians to the tournaments in a neutral status
The International Judo Federation (IJF) allowed the Russians to participate in international tournaments. This was reported on the website of the organization.
“The IJF Executive Committee has decided to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete in IJF competitions as individual neutral athletes,” the statement said.
The IJF will hire an independent company to verify the biographical data and social media of all entered athletes. It is noted that only those athletes and personnel who have passed the test will be considered for further participation in the competition.
On September 21, 2022, the IJF executive committee decided to remove the Russians from participating in international competitions. The federation said the sanctions were taken to ensure the safety of all athletes.
In March 2022, the IJF allowed Russian athletes to take part in international tournaments in a neutral status. However, the national team refused to compete abroad, explaining this decision by significantly complicating access to most countries and ensuring the safety of Russian athletes.
