American defender of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Dynamo club Brennan Menell announced his desire to obtain Russian citizenship. It is reported by TASS.
The sports director of the club Alexei Sopin spoke about the intention of the American to obtain a Russian passport. Details about the course of the procedure for obtaining citizenship are not disclosed.
Last September, Menell said he regretted leaving the KHL in 2021. “Looking back, of course, I regret it. Overall, it’s been a tough season. I try not to guess what would happen if, but sometimes I think about it. It would be very cool, ”added the hockey player.
Menell signed with Dynamo in September 2022. In the 2020/2021 season, he also played in the KHL for Dynamo Minsk, after which he left Russia for a year. The defenseman spent most of his career in the AHL, playing for teams such as the Iowa Wild, Toronto Marlies, and Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
