The IOC will continue to adhere to the recommendations on the admission of Russians to starts after the announcement of the ROC
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) responded to the statement of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) on the criteria for admitting athletes of the national team to competitions. It is reported by “Match TV”.
The IOC stated that they would continue to adhere to the recommendations for the return of the national teams of Russia and Belarus to the tournaments.
Earlier, the ROC called these measures excessive, unreasonable and discriminatory. According to the Russian side, depriving athletes of national self-identification is a gross violation of the principle of equality, which is fundamental in international law.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts. It was noted that teams from these countries cannot be considered as participants in the competition.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
