Olympic champion Vasiliev called on the Russians to refuse to participate in the Games in a neutral status
Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Dmitry Vasiliev spoke about the possible participation of Russians in the Games in a neutral status. It is reported by Sport24.
He called on the representatives of the country to refuse to compete at the Olympics under such conditions. “No one can ensure the safety of our athletes. There is no reason to take risks. Our athletes in a subjective sport can be sued, ”Vasilyev said.
Earlier, the head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), Elena Vyalbe, spoke about the performance of Russians in tournaments under a neutral flag. She stated that in the current situation she would prohibit her wards from participating in competitions in this status.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in tournaments. Since the end of February 2022, most Russian athletes have been suspended from tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC.
