This Sunday morning, the manchester city visited Fulham, for the 34th round of the English Championshipat the Craven Cottage stadium, in Fulham (ING), and won by 2 to 1. Haaland, from the penalty spot, and Julián Alvarez scored the visitors’ goals, while the Brazilian Carlos Vinícius was the author of the main goal.
The Norwegian striker even sets yet another record in the Premier League. Four days after isolating himself as the top scorer in a single edition of the championship since it started to be played in 38 rounds – when he scored his 33rd goal in the competition, against Arsenal – Haaland equaled Andy Cole’s 34 goals, in 1993/94, and Alan Shearer, in 1994/95, in the historic artillery of the tournament. The difference is that at the time the teams played 46 and 42 matches, respectively.
With the result, the team coached by Pep Guardiola reaches 76 points, is one ahead of Arsenal and thus takes the lead in the English Championship. Despite the Gunners still playing in the round, the Citizens are still one game behind their rival.
In turn, Fulham suffers the second consecutive defeat, remaining with 45 goals added, in tenth place.
Now, both teams play late matches, valid for the 28th round of the competition. At 4 pm (Brasília time) next Wednesday, Manchester City will receive West Ham, at the Etihad Stadium, in Manchester (ING). At the same time, Fulham visit Liverpool, at Anfield, in Liverpool (ING).
The match between Manchester City and Fulham
Needing to win to take the lead, Manchester City started the game on top and opened the scoring after just three minutes, with Haaland. Julián Alvarez received from Mahrez inside the area, but was brought down by Ream at the moment of the kick. With the penalty scored, the Norwegian striker went to the penalty spot and beat goalkeeper Leno to score his 34th goal in the Premier League.
Fulham were unfazed by the lightning setback and tied the match in the 14th minute. Harry Wilson was launched into the penalty area and headed home to Brazilian Carlos Vinícius, who dominated and hit Ederson’s right corner to level up at Craven Cottage.
At 26, Haaland found Grealish inside the area and the Englishman kicked across, but Leno touched the ball, diverting it to the crossbar and preventing City’s second goal. However, nine minutes later, Julián Alvarez received it in the half moon, cut the mark and covered the opposing goalkeeper with a beautiful shot to put the visitors ahead once again.
On the return of the break, the Citizens kept the offensive momentum and almost scored, again with Haaland, after two minutes. The number 9 received Grealish and hit at first, but Leno stretched to make the defense and spread it out for a corner. At 19, Fulham responded, again with Carlos Vinícius. The Brazilian took advantage of City’s defense, but Ederson recovered in the bid and prevented the attacker’s conclusion.
