The Araba Provincial Council has awarded the Araba Medal to the basketball coach Pablo Laso this Friday, the highest award given annually, for his “personal and sporting values” and for “proudly defending his Alava origins”.

The general deputy, Ramiro González, also recognized Laso’s role as ambassador of the Territory at the ceremonyas reported by the foral entity in a statement.

“Every year, when we award the Álava Medal, we feel proud to be from Álava. And we do it because we are aware that in our Territory there are excellent people and organizations of whom we are proud,” explained Ramiro González.

The deputy general has thus transferred the pride of the Territory by recognizing Laso “for the personal and sporting values ​​that he has transmitted throughout his career”. “A man from Alava who has served as a representative of our Territory wherever his profession has taken him, always proudly defending his Vitoriano and Alava origins,” he stated.

For his part, Pablo Laso has admitted that it is “a real honor” to receive this medal, but also a responsibility to “represent all” those who accompany him: “I have always boasted of my origins. I was that child who started playing at San Viator School, with no other aspirations than to have fun and have a good time with friends; who later looked at basketball as the means to get to play in his team city, Baskonia. And that little by little he was achieving small goals until, probably, he was able to be in competitions and games that he imaginary played in his bedroom as a child”.
