O Corinthians keeps an eye on the market, mainly to reinforce its defensive line. At the request of coach Cuca, the club went after defender Lucas Veríssimo, formerSantos and currently in Benficafrom Portugal.
The information was initially given by journalist Samir Carvalho and confirmed by Sports Gazette.
Benfica see Lucas Veríssimo’s loan to Brazilian clubs with good eyes, however the player would only arrive at Corinthians in July, as the first transfer window closed in early April.
The alvinegra board had already monitored the situation of the defender before, but no agreement was signed. However, now with Cuca under the command of Timão, the business has heated up and the contact between the parties exists.
Veríssimo has already worked together with Cuca at Santos, experiencing one of the peaks of his career, and when he learned of the coach’s interest, he was happy with the idea. In 2020, the two were runners-up in the Libertadores Cup.
The player has been at Benfica since the 2020/21 season. So far, the defender has played 43 games, five goals and two assists with the Portuguese team. Lucas Veríssimo’s contract with the team is valid until June 2026.
