Ukraine will continue to participate in the selection of Euro 2024 football despite the participation of Belarus
President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andriy Pavelko on his Facebook page (social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) said that the national team has decided on participation in the qualifying tournament for the European Championship in 2024.
Pavelko said that the team will continue to play in the tournament, despite the participation of the Belarusian national team. He stressed that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will separate the Ukrainian and Belarusian teams in the draw of international tournaments. The head of the UAF added that if face-to-face meetings are likely, the association will make a separate decision.
On April 17, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny spoke about a possible boycott of the qualifying tournament for Euro 2024 due to the participation of the Belarusian national team in it. Then he said that this issue is not being considered.
On April 14, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in competitions with Russians and Belarusians. In response, the International Olympic Committee said that the Ukrainian government does not have the right to decide which athletes can participate in international competitions.
