This Monday, the Turin Police announced the punishment of 171 supporters of the Juventus who made racist attacks against the striker of Inter, Romelu Lukaku. Identified criminals will be banned from entering Juve’s upcoming matches at the Allianz Stadium.
“As a result of the racist chants in the Italian Cup semi-final, the Turin police prefecture carried out, as part of the fight against racism, 171 offenses against the same number of Juventus fans. They will also be subject to a ban on access to the stadium”, wrote the Turin Police.
Os racist insults occurred in the duel between Juventus and Inter Milan for the first leg of the Italian Cup semifinal, which took place in early April. A match ended 1-1 and the equalizing goal came at the feet of Lukaku, who celebrated by asking the rival fans to be silent.
After the celebration, the referee expelled Lukaku and caused confusion between players from both teams on the lawn. Juan Cuadrado of Juventus and Samir Handanovic of Inter Milan exchanged punches after the final whistle and also received a red card.
The Italian Football Federation has decreed the annulment of Lukaku’s expulsion. In a statement, the FIGC justified the reversal of the punishment by stating that the Belgian player suffered “serious, repeated and regrettable manifestations of hatred and racial discrimination”.
In this way, Inter Milan will have Lukaku available for the return game of the Italian Cup semifinal, which will be held this Wednesday, at the San Siro, at 4 pm (BrasÃlia time). In the last game for Italian Serie ALuke scored two goals in the victory against Empoli.
