Former head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation Anatoly Akentiev died at the age of 82
The former head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), Anatoly Akentiev, has died. This was reported on the website of the organization.
The Honorary Life President of the FLGR died on April 23 at the age of 82. The organization expressed its condolences to the family and friends of Akentiev.
Member of the FLGR Presidium Sergey Kryanin told RIA Novosti that the preliminary cause of death was complications after suffering a coronavirus.
Akentiev is a multiple champion of the USSR, winner of the Holmenkollen Ski Games, and also a participant in the 1968 Olympic Games. After completing his sports career, he was the head coach of the national teams of the USSR and Russia. From 1996 to 2004, Akentiev headed the FLGR.
In 1979, Akentiev was elected Vice President of the International Ski Federation (FIS). He later became FIS Honorary Vice President.
