Russian defender Dmitry Orlov set Boston’s record in the NHL playoffs
Russian defenseman Dmitry Orlov set a Boston Bruins record in the playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL). This was reported on the league website.
Orlov became the first defender in the history of the club, who managed to score points in four debut matches in a row in the series through. The last time Boston defenders managed to achieve such an indicator was in 1988, when Glen Wesley scored goals in the first three meetings of the 1/8 finals of the Stanley Cup.
In addition, with five assists in the series, Orlov became the sixth defenseman since 1997 to score a point in each of his first four NHL playoff games. Previously, Chris Russell, Jack Johnson, Chris Pronger, Ryan Whitney and Mattias Ohlund succeeded.
On February 24, Orlov was traded to Boston along with American forward Garnet Hathaway of the Washington Capitals. As part of the new club, the Russian played 23 games in the regular season, in which he scored four goals and gave 13 assists.
The defender has been playing for Washington since 2011. Together with the team, he won the Stanley Cup in 2018. As part of the Russian national team, the hockey player won the world championship.
