In their next commitment, Erik ten Hag’s team will visit Tottenham, for English Championship. Manchester United is fourth in the competition, with 59 points, and fighting for a place in the next Champions League.
Brighton, on the other hand, faces Nottingham Forest, away from home. The team led by coach Roberto De Zerbi occupies the eighth position in the English table, with 49 points.
The game
The first leg of the match was quite busy for both teams. In the best opportunity, Brighton arrived with danger from a free kick by MacAllister, in which De Gea made a great save. United, on the other hand, were in danger with Bruno Fernandes, who kicked hard from outside the area, but stopped in goalkeeper Sanchez.
In the second half, the game became more truncated and Brighton was the one who took possession of the ball. United, in turn, knew how to suffer and did not let their opponent create great opportunities to score. As the defenses were well posted, both goalkeepers only worked on shots from outside the area.
With the score zero, the match went into overtime. During the 30 minutes, not many chances were created for either side. The most dangerous move was a shot by Rashford that deflected halfway and almost deceived the opposing goalkeeper. The teams were already tired, saving strength for penalties.
Almost all of the penalty takers from both clubs didn’t give the goalkeepers chances and beat the penalties efficiently, including the Brazilian Casemiro. It wasn’t until the seventh kick, when Solly March shot over the net, that United fans breathed a sigh of relief. To stamp his team’s place in the final, defender Lindelof hit the angle, putting an end to the long dispute.
