Emelec has, with four defeats and two wins in the Pro League, the worst start to the season (in six matches) so far in the 21st century. (2013, 2014, 2015), and the one who dominated the national championship in five years (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017) with four stars, remains only in fond memories.
Silvano Estacio was part of the aforementioned electric stage and also a double champion in 2001-2002, and although he could not be in the recent title era as he left the club in 2012, he was part of the team and campaign that paved the way to glory.
After admitting that the Uruguayan Juan Ramón Carrasco was the worst coach he had at Emelec in 2011, and that the best were Salvador Capitano, Carlos Torres Garcés and Jorge Sampaoli, in this second part of the conversation with UNIVERSE The 41-year-old former Esmeralda player talks about the two leaders he considers decisive in the millionaires’ club. National technician and radio commentator Tomorrow He also thinks of Félix Sánchez Bas in the national team.

During your time at Emelec, what changes have you noticed in managers from the past with the era of Nassib Neme?
When I first went (to the first team), we were champions twice in 2001-2002. Omar Quintana was there, an excellent president, a gentleman, that’s why they called him Sports knight. Therefore, there were no presidents like Neme and Quintana (who only chaired the Football Commission, not the club). There were others with whom Emelec spent moments that he wouldn’t even want to remember, critical ones, because of debts, because of non-payment of players, from those of us who stood up and asked them to pay us. After Quintana left, Emelec went through very hard times. Even in a year, which I don’t remember, they only paid us for half a fortnight. We who were then, worked for self-love, for a shirt, for creation. We spent years of anxiety living in cramped quarters, but when Neme arrived, everything improved. What Emelec is so far is because of Quintana, who brought out a great brood of players; and for Neme, because in his era we had Enner Valencia, Ángel Mena, Fernad Gaibor, players who gave a lot to the club.
What happened that until now Guayaquil football has not had the joy of celebrating an international title?
The key is that there is no support for smaller divisions. It is the complete opposite of what Independiente del Valle has done in a few years. This club has been identified for a decade as the biggest nursery in the country, the one that exports the most players, the one that supplies the national team. They believe in smaller categories, when there is an opportunity for players to make their debut, they give it to them. Other teams don’t.
What happened to you as DT on October 9?
I understand it as a moment of joy, that I had the opportunity. They allowed me to make my debut as a coach in Serie A, something that is now very difficult for national professionals. It was a very nice experience and I took advantage of it. Now I’m waiting for a good project to direct, which is the first option. Radio work is for topics I like; I thank my friend (journalist Javier Ruiz) who invited me to be part of the program.
Is it painful that the mayor of Tricolor has not been guided by the national coach since the time of Sixto Vzuete?
Yes, I actually disagree (with Félix Sánchez Bas). It is very important that the national team is managed by Ecuadorian technicians because that is what it is all about. In other countries, they give great credibility to their own. Why can’t we trust our own? I think Sixto Vizuete played a good role, but they buried him because he is Ecuadorian. We don’t want our own.
Why do you disagree with the arrival of Sánchez Bas?
The option is very good, but I would agree that it was an Ecuadorian. But it is what it is and you have to support him, help him as much as you can. We must wish him all the best and to lead us to another World Cup.
Was he indebted to Emelec?
I don’t think I gave everything, I went through the big door. That I would like to direct Emelec one day. It will be when God allows and when they tell me to come directly, I will go with pleasure.
What do you think of Emelec’s moment in the Pro League, where they have four consecutive defeats?
I think maybe this is happening because of the changes that have happened in every way. The leadership, professional staff, and most of the players have changed. It is a process that begins and takes its toll. There is a good team. Unfortunately, it started badly, but I believe because they have a coach like Miguel Rondelli. They have to give him time and be patient. Since 2009, we have been used to being in the first places, since Neme came, and when this happens from moment to moment, it is very complicated for all of us who love Emelec. (D)
