Former IBU Secretary General Nicole Resch acquitted of corruption charges
Former Secretary General of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Nicole Resch was acquitted in a corruption case. It is reported by Ski‑Nordique.
Lawyer Resch Lukas Kollmann said that his client’s accusations of defending Russia’s interests were proved wrong. He stressed that the prosecutor’s office considered all the accusations unreliable and did not press any charges. It is noted that the proceedings in Austria lasted more than four years.
In January 2021, Resch and the former head of the IBU, Anders Besseberg, were suspected of unjustified assistance to Russia in the anti-doping context. It was noted that they could hide the positive doping tests of the Russians, as well as illegally distribute media rights when choosing Tyumen as the capital of the 2021 World Cup.
Besseberg is the first President of the IBU. He led the organization from 1993 to 2018. Resh worked for the union from 2008 to 2018.
