The doctor estimated the recovery time of Kostomarov

Doctor Averbakh said that the recovery of Kostomarov will take from six months to several years

The chief doctor of a private ambulance in St. Petersburg, Lev Averbakh, estimated the recovery time for Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov. His words are quoted by Sport24.

“Sepsis, thrombosis, pneumonia and other severe complications leave a mark on the body and tend to return. First, he must be transferred from the intensive care unit to the ward, and then to the rehabilitation department. This is a very long process,” he said. The doctor suggested that Kostomarov’s recovery would take from six months to several years, while the athlete would remain under constant medical supervision.

On April 17, information appeared that Kostomarov would have to undergo several operations. It was clarified that surgical intervention is necessary before prosthetics. Earlier, RBC reported that the 46-year-old skater would be discharged from intensive care in the next two months.

Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. According to Moskovsky Komsomolets, the figure skater was amputated with both feet, then the shins of both legs, the entire right hand, and several fingers of the left hand.
