Sevilla and Jorge Sampaoli reached an agreement for the end of the coach’s contract with the club. The announcement came this Friday, a month after the dismissal of the Argentine, who now coaches the Flamengo. Sampaoli had signed until June 2024 with the Spanish team and spent a year and a half in charge.
“The agreement is satisfactory for both parties. Sevilla wants to publicly thank the Argentinian coach’s predisposition to definitively close the termination. Likewise, wish him good luck in his new stage at Flamengo”, says the note published by the club.
The work of Flamengo’s current coach at Sevilla was marked by irregularity. Altogether there were 30 games, with 12 wins, six draws and 12 defeats, resulting in a total performance of 46.7%.
According to the club, some of the factors that weighed in the dismissal were “the fact that the team was unable to leave the lowest positions in the table and the coach’s attitude in the last matches”.

The climate in the locker room was also not the best with the negative results. According to “Marca”, the athletes would have broken with Sampaoli and said that the coach confused the team with the constant changes of system and players.
When the Argentine left Sevilla, the club was in 14th place in the Championship Spanish, with 28 points (just two above the relegation zone). Just three rounds later, the team is now in 13th place, with 35 points (eight away from the relegation zone).
Furthermore, Sevilla, who are now managed by José Luis Mendilibar, eliminated Manchester United in the middle of the week for the quarterfinals of the Europa League. The Spanish club can win its seventh title of the competition.
In their next match for Espanyol, Sevilla will face Villareal this Sunday, at 4pm (Brasília time).
