Karpin explained Russia’s refusal to participate in the CAFA tournament by the timing of its holding
The head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin explained the team’s refusal to participate in the tournament of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA). It is reported by TASS.
According to the coach, several reasons influenced this decision. “The first is the timing of the tournament. Only on June 11 will the final of the Cup of the country take place, and the decision to participate in the tournament had to be made now, ”said Karpin.
The specialist also drew attention to the weather conditions at the venue of the tournament. “This is Tashkent or Bishkek, it is obvious that the temperature is over 30 degrees Celsius. In Bishkek, I want to remind you that an artificial field has been laid at all, where the risk of injury increases significantly,” the coach added.
The refusal of the Russian team to participate in the CAFA international tournament became known on April 18. The Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Maxim Mitrofanov, said that the decision was made due to the excessive burden on the players.
The CAFA Championship with the participation of men’s national teams will be held from 9 to 21 June 2023 in Kyrgyzstan. It is expected that all six members of the association will play in the tournament: Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
