The former captain of the Uruguayan team, Diego Lugano, a defender with rich experience in the Brazilian league, dedicated controversial words to the new coach of Flamengo, Jorge Sampaoli, whom he said leaves nothing behind in the clubs where he works.

“He is a coach who comes from the ‘Loco’ Bielsa school: intense, with aggressive football, full pressing and ultra-attacking, which is also very intense. But I don’t know if Flamengo’s Board of Directors really knows what his daily life is like, because what we know is that he doesn’t leave ‘saudade’ (nostalgia) anywhere he goes,” said Lugano.

“In football in Chile, the coach changed many times, but his name was never considered again and that is where he had the most success, after reaping the fruits of Bielsa,” he added in statements in ESPN Brazil.

About the arrival of the former DT from Emelec to Flamengo, he said: “There is enough money to bring an internationally respected coach. (…) It’s a logical choice because of the press and image more than because of the results Sampaoli has in Brazil, because he doesn’t have any. He did a good job at Santos and more or less at Atlético Mineiro”.

“In Argentina, Boca and River recently changed coaches, and Sampaoli was not among the ten candidates discussed. That’s why I don’t understand how the more experienced Flamengo players ask for it,” concluded the former Uruguayan player. (D)
