Czech player Jankto is back in the news after refusing to take a drug test

Two months after announcing his homosexuality, Czech national team and Getafe player Jakub Jankto, who plays for Sparta Prague on loan, is back in the news in his country after refusing to pass a test in a blitz of traffic in the Czech capital.

Sparta announced on their website that they have sidelined the 27-year-old so he can “deal with his personal issues”.

“The player is not fully capable of fulfilling his professional obligations,” added the club.

On Tuesday, police stopped Jankto’s car following a tip from another driver, who suspected that the person driving that vehicle might be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Jankto passed the breathalyzer test, but declined another drug test or medical examination.

The Blesk tabloid reported that Jankto does not have a driver’s license because the police withdrew it some time ago.

Jankto, scorer of 4 goals in 45 games for his country’s national team, announced in February that he is gay, thus becoming one of the few professional players to declare himself openly homosexual and the first to do so while still playing internationally in his country .

This announcement generated an outpouring of international support.
