Since arriving at Barcelona, goalkeeper Javier Burrai has become an undisputed figure in the Canarian team, and was also the protagonist of the 2020 title won against Liga de Quito at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium.

In December of that year, the goalkeeper dressed up as the hero of the penalty shootout that ended with the bullfighter’s crown.

However, Burrai admitted that, in principle, the idea of coming to play in the country was not in his plans, however, the insistence of Juan Manuel Tévez, his compatriot who was a member of Macará de Ambato, made him change his mind and This is how reached the celestial image in mid-2018.

“Juan Manuel Tévez called me, he was already in Macara, I was covering Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy and he told me that they were looking for a goalkeeper, that he had already sent my name and I said thank you, but no,” said the goalkeeper.

“When Macará de Ambato told me, I really knew very little and after his insistence for weeks and days; I thought a little and one day I woke up and said I have to go to Ecuador,” he added in an interview with Aunt TV.

After he was convinced, upon arriving in the capital of Tungurahua, he set several goals and believed that serving in Ecuador would help him “grow” professionally.

“It was a place where I could grow up and I told my girlfriend at that moment that we were going to Ecuador, we didn’t know what Ambato was like, I didn’t know where it was going to go. It was a challenge for me because it was a new league, I felt it was a country where I could grow a lot,” he said.

Another aspect that convinced Burrai to come to the Pro League was what happened with retired goalkeeper Esteban Dreera, who was his teammate at Arsenal de Sarandí.

“I had situations like Dreer, who was my teammate at Arsenal when I was 18 years old. In our first match I was covering Macaráj and he was covering Emelec, I asked him if he remembered me and he confirmed it,” the goalkeeper concluded Canaries. (D)
