As reported by Athletic this Tuesday, on Thursday May 4, hours before the match against Betis, the 1983 League champions will attend an institutional reception, and minutes before the match they will jump onto the San Mamés pitch, “to receive, once again, the warmth of the fans”, specified the rojiblanco club.

Athletic wanted to thank “the magnificent disposition of the members of the squad and coaching staff” of that season to take part in the tribute, and, likewise, makes “an appeal to the people who attend the match, to access the field in advance, to be able to experience the tribute to the 1983 champions”.

The squad that won the seventh of the eight league titles that Athletic has won, directed by Javier Clemente, was made up of Zubizarreta, Cedrún, Meléndez, Urkiaga, Liceranzu, Goikoetxea, De la Fuente, Núñez, Bolaños, Gisasola, Óscar Vivanco, Rastrojo , De Andrés, Gallego, Urtubi, Sola, Patxi Salinas, Elgezabal, Tirapu, Dani, Sarabia, Argote, Noriega, Julio Salinas and Arrien. Practically all of them, in the following season, 1983-84, were League, Cup and Super Cup champions.
