With two from Haaland, City beats Leicester for the English and puts pressure on Arsenal

This Saturday, the Manchester City beat Leicester 3-1, in a match valid for the 31st round of the English Championship, held at King Power Stadium. Stones and Erling Haaland (twice) scored for City, while Iheanacho pulled one back for the hosts.

With the result, City remained in second place in the English, but reduced the gap to the leader Arsenal, reaching 70 points, three behind Arteta’s team, who go to the field this Sunday, against West Ham. It is worth remembering that, at the end of the round, Pep Guardiola’s men will still have one game less in relation to their rivals.

On the other hand, Leicester remained in the competition’s second place, with 25 points. The team can finish the round in the bottom of the English, as it is just two points away from Southampton, which is still playing.

Manchester City is back on the field next Wednesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), in the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Champions League. In the first leg, the English won by 3 to 0 and, therefore, have the qualification to the semifinal well under way.

Leicester, on Saturday, at 11 am, will face Wolverhampton, for the 32nd round of the Premier League, in a match that takes place at the King Power Stadium.

The game

At 4 minutes, Stones took advantage of the corner ball and sent a bomb from outside the area to open the scoring for City. At 10, Jack Grealish crossed into the middle of the area and the ball hit Ndidi’s arm. After reviewing the bid, the referee awarded the penalty.

At the kick, Erling Haaland kicked low into Iversen’s left corner and extended the scoreboard for the visitors. The Norwegian got ready once again at 24, when he received from De Bruyne, invaded the area and touched over the goalkeeper, scoring City’s third, his second in the match.

That was Haaland’s 32nd goal, which put him level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah as the all-time leading goalscorer in a single season in Premier League history.

In the second half, at 10 minutes, Grealish received a corner kick and, with a volley, sent it over the goal. At 30, Maddison took a corner and Souttar headed to Ederson’s defense. The Brazilian archer gave a rebound that found Iheanacho, who discounted it for the hosts.

At 40 minutes, Maddison invaded the area and kicked into the corner of the goal, but saw Ederson make a beautiful save and avoid Leicester’s second goal. Already in the additions, Iheanacho received a beautiful pass from Maddison and sent it to the crossbar. The match ended in City’s 3-1 victory.
