Former Flamengo, Diego Alves terminates contract with Celta de Vigo without having entered the field

This Saturday, Celta de Vigo announced that it has reached an agreement with goalkeeper Diego Alves for the termination of the contract. Ex-Flamengothe 37-year-old signed for the Spanish club in February but suffered an injury in training and did not make his debut.

“The club thanks Diego for his involvement and dedication over these months, wishing him all the luck in his new professional challenges and a speedy recovery from his injury,” Celta de Vigo wrote in a statement.

Diego Alves left Flamengo at the end of the last season of Brazilian football and transferred free of charge to Celta de Vigo. With a contract signed until June, the goalkeeper suffered a knee injury and did not get to play for the new team.

Despite this frustrated passage through Celta, Diego Alves still maintains a legacy in European football. The Brazilian still holds the record for saved penalties in the spanish league, with 25 saves. Diego wore the shirts of Valencia and Almerรญa.

The goalkeeper was hired in 2017 by Flamengo after spending more than ten years in Spain. At the rubro-negro club, Diego Alves played in 186 matches, wore the captain’s belt and participated in the conquests of two Copa Libertadores, two Brazilian Championships, two Supercups, a Copa do Brasil and a Recopa Sudamericana.
