Norway refused to send fencers to FIE tournaments due to the admission of Russians
The Norwegian Fencing Federation refused to send its athletes to tournaments because of the admission of Russians to them. This was reported on the official website of the organization.
In addition, Norway announced that they would not hold competitions under the auspices of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) in the country. “Instead, a tournament will be organized in cooperation with Sweden and Finland, who have taken similar action for their World Cup events,” the Norwegian federation said in a statement.
Earlier, France, Denmark and Germany also canceled FIE competitions on their territory. It was noted that this decision was due to the inability to comply with the conditions for ensuring the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the tournament.
On March 10, it was reported that the FIE allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international tournaments. The return of the teams to the starts in a neutral status will take place no earlier than mid-April 2023.
