The goalkeeper of JuventusWojciech Szczesny, had a scare in this Thursday’s match against Sporting for the Europa League. The Polish athlete had to be substituted in the 44th minute of the first half after experiencing chest pains and difficulty breathing.
“Well that was scary! Thank you all for your kind messages and well wishes. I’m fine and hope to be back on the field as soon as possible. Many thanks to the medical team at the Allianz Arena for their support and to Mattia Perin (Juventus reserve goalkeeper) for being the hero of the day,” wrote the goalkeeper on his Instagram.
Juventus spoke before the end of the game on their social networks to announce that “after an initial verification, [Szczesny] he is well”.
The match ended 1-0 for the Italian club, which started ahead in the Europa League quarterfinals. The Pole’s replacement, Mattia Perin, made great saves in the second half that ensured his team’s advantage in the first game.
The return game will take place next Thursday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Estádio José Alvalade, home of Sporting.
