O Milan beat Napoli 1-0 in their stadium, this Wednesday, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, thanks to a goal by Algerian midfielder Ismaël Bennacer, after a great move by Spaniard Brahim Díaz.
Ineffective and without their top scorer, the injured Victor Osimhen, Napoli will have to reverse that disadvantage next Tuesday at their Diego Maradona stadium if they want to play for the first time in the semifinals of the Champions League.
Milan, seven times European champions but unable to reach the quarter-finals eleven years ago, showed the ability to tame a Napoli debuting at this stage of the competition.
“I saw a good attitude from my players. They don’t have international experience, they don’t have the age and they hadn’t played a match of this importance. Maignan made two or three fundamental saves”, summarized the Neapolitan coach Luciano Spalletti.
“The return leg will be a great duel, with a lot of tension and emotions. They started better than us, our passing game wasn’t good and they were more aggressive. Then we were up to it and we’re going to Napoli with a lot of confidence” , said Milan coach Stefano Pioli.
