“Pittsburgh” with Evgeni Malkin in the first time in 17 years failed to reach the NHL playoffs
The Pittsburgh Penguins are out of the NHL playoffs for the first time in 17 years. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.
This came to light after the New York Islanders beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 in a regular season game. Thus, “Pittsburgh” with 90 points remained in ninth position in the standings of the Eastern Conference.
Pittsburgh will play the Columbus Blue Jackets next. However, the team, which includes Russian forward Evgeni Malkin, will no longer be able to score the number of points necessary to reach the playoffs.
On April 5, it became known that the Washington Capitals, captained by Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin, also lost their chances of reaching the NHL playoffs. The team will not play at this stage of the tournament for the first time since 2014.
The NHL regular season will end on April 14. The playoff series will start on April 18.
