In this context, Joan Laporta will offer the club’s official version regarding the Negreira case next Monday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m. After the case of millionaire payments from the Barcelona entity to the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), José María Enríquez Negreira, broke out at the beginning of February, the club ordered an external investigation to clarify the ends of a relationship that had lasted for 17 years (from 2001 to 2018); For this reason, the club contacted the expert lawyer in audit control, Andreu van den Eynde, who would have already finalized his report; as a result of this, Laporta will offer his version, in the first press conference of the president of FC Barcelona related to this issue.

As a result of the aforementioned payments, FC Barcelona is being investigated by Court number 1 of the Catalan capital, for various corruption offences.

Also for next week, specifically For April 19, LaLiga has summoned the professional clubs to carry out an Extraordinary General Assembly, in which the consequences of the case will be analyzed. In this sense, the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, has assured that he expects FC Barcelona to attend the assembly, “to give explanations to the rest of the clubs about the Negreira case, because two months have passed and he still hasn’t given them”. In Tebas’s opinion, the letter that the club sent to UEFA and FIFA “clarifies little more”.

In parallel, the Minister of Territorial Policy and spokesperson for the Government of Spain, Isabel Rodríguezhas stated that he is “worried about everything that could bring discredit to Spanish football”, and that, “for that reason”, he wants “to get to the bottom of the matter and to clarify” the Negreira case.

“The integrity of the competition is the basis of high-level sport, and, in the interest of the Government in which this case is resolved, what the Higher Sports Council has done has been to present its writ of representation on the facts that denounced and that they are directly related to the functions that may have affected the integrity of the sports competition, whose guardianship is entrusted to the Higher Sports Council”, stated the minister.

In the opinion of Javier Tebas, “the Negreira case”, within what he knows, “is the greatest reputational damage, not only to Barcelona, ​​but also to Spanish football, in history”. “The motivation almost does not matter to me, it is the fact, in addition to four different presidents, who passed the baton,” said the top leader of LaLiga. “Let’s see how he clarifies it for us.
