Newcastle’s new coach Eddie Howe spoke to the British press this Friday. The coach said he was “anxious” for the challenge and praised Brazilian Joelinton, who arrived at the club in 2019 under great expectations.
Howe will be tasked with taking the Northern England club out of the Premier League’s relegation zone. “I’m looking forward to the challenge. I have no illusions about our current situation and what we need to do. Tomorrow is a big day for the club and the atmosphere will be bright for all of us,” Eddie told a news conference.
To succeed at Newcastle, Howe wants to have Joelinton (ex-Sport), the most expensive signing in the club’s history. “I think he can be a great player for us. From what I’ve seen in training, he’s a technical player, with very good feet and smart. Unlocking that talent and ability are things I’m going to evaluate, but he has is a much of our future here,” commented the coach.
In addition to taking Newcastle out of the relegation zone, Howe will have to deal with a lot of pressure to live up to expectations regarding the investments made in the club. In October, the traditional English team was sold to a Saudi Arabian investment fund for an approximate amount of R$2.2 billion.
In the next transfer window, in early 2022, the trend is for new investors to make their first impact hires to strengthen the roster.
