Prime Minister of Portugal Costa said that Ukraine retains chances to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup
Prime Minister of Portugal António Costa spoke about the fate of Ukraine as the host country of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. His words are quoted by A Bola.
Costa said that Ukraine retains a chance to host the World Cup together with Spain, Portugal and Morocco. “This World Cup will for the first time unite the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea, unite two continents through sports,” the politician stressed.
Earlier it became known that Ukraine runs the risk of not having time to prepare for the tournament and may be replaced in the application. As noted by The Athletic, Morocco is the most preferred replacement option.
Initially, Spain, Portugal and Ukraine submitted a joint application to host the tournament, while Morocco submitted an individual one. In addition, two more groups of countries expressed their desire to host the World Cup: Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Greece, as well as Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile.
