VFLA expressed disagreement with the decision of World Athletics to create a commission for the admission of Russians
The All-Russian Federation of Athletics (VFLA) appreciated the decision of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) to create a commission for the admission of Russians to tournaments. The words of the president of the organization, Peter Ivanov, are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“World Athletics has created a commission that will form the conditions. We sent them a letter expressing our disagreement with this approach, which is contrary to the Olympic Charter,” Ivanov said.
He also said that the ARAF will have to clarify the possibility of inviting foreign athletes to competitions in Russia.
On March 23, World Athletics announced the restoration of ARAF membership. At the same time, the suspension of Russian athletes from competitions under the auspices of the organization was extended. It was noted that the Association will further formulate the conditions under which athletes will be able to return to tournaments.
In 2015, the ARAF membership in World Athletics was suspended due to systematic violations of anti-doping rules by Russians. Domestic athletes could compete in international competitions only after receiving individual permits and in a neutral status.
