Serbian Mitrovic suspended for eight games after pushing referee

Sent off in an FA Cup match against Manchester United for pushing the referee, who had awarded a penalty, Aleksandar Mitrovic, of the Serbia national team and Fulham, was suspended for eight games, announced the FA (FA) this Tuesday.

Coach Marco Silva, expelled moments before for verbally attacking the referee, was suspended for two games.

Not satisfied with these sanctions, the FA has announced its intention to appeal the two decisions, although it will “wait for the written conclusions” of the commission before deciding.

When Fulham won 1-0 at Old Trafford on March 19, in the quarter-finals of FA CupMitrovic and Silva reacted with violence, physical and verbal, shortly after the referee awarded a penalty to United.

Referee Chris Kavanagh was warned by VAR in the 72nd minute to review footage after a Jadon Sancho shot was deflected by Fulham’s Willian.

After confirming the images, the judge scored the penalty and expelled Willian. It was then that Mitrovic ran towards him screaming and pushed him.

He was also expelled, his team was left with nine and ended up losing by 3 to 1. In addition, the player ended up fined 75,000 pounds (R$ 476 thousand).

Silva acknowledged having made threatening gestures and attitudes towards the referee and insults towards the fourth referee. He was also found guilty of his comments after the game when he questioned the impartiality of the referees. The coach was fined £40,000.
