Chelsea caretaker Bruno Saltor says players are ‘saddened’ by Potter sacking

The new interim head coach chelsea, Bruno Saltor, said on Monday that the players are down with the sacking of Graham Potter. The new commander of the club is one day away from making his debut in charge of the team against Liverpoolat Stamford Bridge, in a postponed eighth round game of the English Championship.

Potter, who joined the team in September to replace Germany’s Thomas Tuchel, was sacked on Sunday after the 2-0 defeat at home to aston villa.

With Potter as their coach, the Blues managed just ten wins from 28 Premier League games, occupying a disappointing 11th position. The team is 12 points behind fourth place, the last to qualify for the next Champions League.

“It’s very difficult on all levels, especially emotionally. The players are sad because they know how human Graham is,” said Bruno, Potter’s assistant at Brighton and then Chelsea.

Chelsea announced in a statement that Bruno Saltor had taken over as head coach to “facilitate a smooth transition”. According to the press, the main candidate to assume the command is the German Julian Nagelsmann, dismissed from the Bayern Munchen last week.

“That means I’m here now, just trying to make it go well and try to contribute as best I can. I think Graham did a great job,” said Bruno, a 42-year-old former defender.

“Football is a very complicated business and we have to accept it. We are representing Chelsea, a club with a wonderful history,” he added.

Chelsea visit the Real Madrid next week in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. Before, however, he visits Wolves for the Englishman.
