The senior coach of the Russian women’s biathlon team Mikhail Shashilov shared his opinion on working with the national team. His words are quoted by Sports.ru.
Shashilov said that he was thinking about leaving his post. “Yeah right now. What is happening is just overkill, ”- with this phrase he described the work with the team.
“I don’t want to lose either friends or athletes,” the coach shared, noting that this is due to a change in outlook. According to Shashilov, many did not understand from the very beginning why he agreed to lead the women’s team. “It’s easier for me to come to the training camp myself – either with my own squad, or to help the coach of the national team,” the specialist suggested a possible option for further cooperation.
Last season, the best result of the women’s team under his leadership was victory in the relay at the seventh stage of the World Cup in Anterselva, Italy. In personal races, the highest achievement was the fourth place of Svetlana Mironova in the pursuit race at the fifth stage in Oberhof.
Shashilov has been the head coach of the women’s national team since 2020. Prior to that, the specialist served as the head coach of the biathlon team of the Sverdlovsk region. He was repeatedly accused of undeservedly taking athletes from his region to the national team.
