Barcelona call on La Liga chief Tebas to resign over false evidence in Negreira case
Barcelona have called for the resignation of the head of La Liga, Javier Tebas. The statement was published on the official website of the team.
Earlier on April 3, Diario Sport, citing La Vanguardia, reported that Tebas sent false evidence to the prosecutor’s office in the case of payments to the former vice-president of the technical committee of referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Enriquez Negreira. The club emphasized that they never bribed referees, and also noted that they were outraged by the current situation.
On March 23, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) launched an investigation into Barcelona over the corruption component in relations between the club and Negreira. The management of the blue garnets allegedly transferred him 1.4 million euros from 2016 to 2018 for consulting services.
It was clarified that if the fact of corruption is proven, then the International Football Federation can lower the club in the division and strip the titles. In addition, UEFA may suspend the club from participating in the Champions League for one season.
