The game
At 5 minutes of the first half, Emiliano Martínez made a risky pass to Kamara, who lost the ball to Mudryk. The Ukrainian stole the ball at the edge of the area and kicked, requiring the archer who won the World Cup with Argentina to make a great save.
Aston Villa responded at 16. Buendía passed to John McGinn, who sent the crossbar. A minute later, Ollie Watkins received in depth and covered up Kepa, Chelsea goalkeeper, opening the scoring for the visitors.
After the goal, Chelsea launched the attack to tie the match. In the 20th minute, João Félix made a beautiful individual move and shot low, demanding another beautiful save from “Dibu” Martínez. At 34, Ben Chilwell received the ball high and sent it to the post.
In addition, Enzo Fernández crossed for Chilwell, who scored. The referee, however, saw a lack of attack on the move and Graham Potter’s charges left for the locker room at a disadvantage.
In the second half, Chelsea maintained the pressure, but failed to finish the moves. At 10 minutes, Aston Villa scored. Jacob Ramsey rolled for McGinn to send a beautiful shot and extend the visitors’ advantage.
After the goal, despite building dangerous bids, the hosts failed to score. Altogether, there were 27 Chelsea shots, with only 8 of them on target. Thus, the match ended in 2 to 0 for Aston Villa.
