The IOC condemned the decision of the Ukrainian government to ban athletes from competing with the Russians

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) condemned the decision of the Ukrainian government to ban its athletes from competing with the Russians. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The organization said that these measures will only harm the Ukrainian sports community. Representatives of the IOC noted that many athletes and members of the Olympic community of Ukraine are against the boycott of tournaments.

On March 31, the government of Ukraine banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris along with the Russians. Earlier, the IOC recommended that members of the Russian and Belarusian national teams, who did not support the special operation in Ukraine, be admitted to the competition in a neutral status.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
