Russian athletes will be allowed to Wimbledon-2023 in a neutral status

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), which organizes Wimbledon, will admit Russian and Belarusian tennis players to the tournament in 2023. This was reported on the official website of the organization.

It is clarified that athletes will be able to participate in the tournament only in a neutral status and only after signing a “declaration of neutrality”. The LTA noted that they still consider the removal of Russians and Belarusians the right decision, but this year they are not ready to impose a ban due to the threat of sanctions.

On March 9, the Daily Mail named possible conditions for the performance of Russian tennis players at Wimbledon 2023. It was noted that among them there will definitely be a ban on the demonstration of national symbols and support for the state.

On February 18, it was reported that the LTA could deprive the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) from holding tournaments if it again banned Russian athletes from participating in competitions under its auspices. In addition, the organization may be fined.

In the spring of 2022, Russian tennis players were banned from playing in tournaments in the UK. Due to sanctions, domestic athletes were forced to miss Wimbledon. In other ATP and WTA competitions, the Russians play in a neutral status.
