According to the publication, the Spaniard’s refusal was due to the fact that the Manchester club intends to reduce his salary. The player earns around 300,000 pounds (R$ 1.8 million, at current prices) a week, making him the highest paid goalkeeper on the planet.
However, it is worth mentioning that the athlete’s will is to remain at Old Trafford. He considers himself to be one of the key players in United’s squad and believes his earnings have to match his status in the team. Thus, the negotiations continue.
David De Gea has been at Manchester United since 2011, when he was bought from Atletico Madrid, for 25 million euros (R$ 139.1 million at current exchange rates). So far, De Gea has played 529 games for the English club, being the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets (games without conceding goals) in United’s history, with 183 clashes without being leaked.
