Sports Minister Matytsin called the conditions of the IOC for the admission of Russian athletes inhumane
Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin called the conditions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the admission of Russian athletes to competitions discriminatory and inhumane. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“The recommendations of the IOC to classify Russian athletes are illegal, and a separate decision on team sports is openly discriminatory. Our athletes are offered to enter the ajar door, while creating additional obstacles, ”said Matytsin.
He recalled that athletes train hard for years in order to assert the true principles of sports in a fair fight and deprive them of the right to compete inhumanely.
The minister added that Russia always opposes political interference in sports. He called on all International Federations to take a similar position.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be admitted to the competition in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in tournaments.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC. The decision on the participation of representatives of these countries in the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made.
