The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, supported the participation of Russian athletes in tournaments in a neutral status. His speech from the meeting of the executive committee of the organization leads Reuters.

“The participation of athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports in international competitions is working. We see this almost every day in a number of sports, most of all in tennis, ”he said. Bach emphasized that there were no security incidents at any of these tournaments.

Earlier on March 28, it was reported that Russia could be banned from participating in team sports in case of admission to the 2024 Olympic Games. The restriction may apply to sports such as football, handball and volleyball.

On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
