In a duel valid for the second round of the Euro Qualifiers, Netherlands received Gibraltar and won by 3 to 0. Depay and Aké (twice) were responsible for the goals this Monday at the De Kuip stadium, in Rotterdam.
With the result, coach Ronald Koeman’s team reacted to the defeat to France last Friday and scored their first three points, moving up to third place in group B. Greece and Ireland are the other countries that dispute with the Dutch a vacancy in Europe 2024.
The selection will return to the field only in June, for the semifinals of the Nations League. The Netherlands will face Croatia looking for a place in the final of the tournament. The winner will face whoever passes the duel between Spain and Italy.

The game
With difficulties in creating, the Netherlands only managed to pierce the defense of Gibraltar in the 23rd minute of the first stage. After Dumfries’ cross, Depay got ahead of goalkeeper Coleing and headed in to open the scoring.
On the way back from the break, Holland began to have more intensity thanks to the entrance of Gakpo. After the number 9’s cross, Dumfires took advantage of the left and adjusted the ball for Aké’s header, which touched the crossbar and died in the back of the net.
Shortly after the ball went out, Walker was expelled and left Gibraltar with one less. The number 10 hit midfielder Wieffer and quickly received a red card.
Despite the numerical advantage, the Dutch only managed to score again in the 37th minute, when Aké took a chance from outside the area after a pass from Blind. The ball deflected off defender Sergeant and went into the right corner, killing goalkeeper Coleing.
