RT: Roman Kostomarov undergoes general monitoring to prepare for prosthetics
Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov began preparations for a new stage of treatment. RT became aware of this.
“The ventilator was turned off, the tracheostomy was removed, all operations were completed,” the source said. At the moment, the 46-year-old athlete is undergoing general monitoring in order to prepare for prosthetics. It is noted that Kostomarov is conscious and motivated to start rehabilitation.
On March 23, Moskovsky Komsomolets, citing a source in the hospital, reported that several fingers on Kostomarov’s left hand had been removed. After that, the choreographer Ilya Averbukh said that the health of the skater was improving, and he recorded a voice message for him.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B. According to Moskovsky Komsomolets, the skater was amputated with both feet, then the shins of both legs, as well as the entire right hand.
