Irina Rodnina called the past World Figure Skating Championship a second-rate tournament

Three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina criticized the World Figure Skating Championships held in March. Her words are quoted by RB Sport.

According to Rodnina, the absence of the Russians at the tournament had a negative impact on its quality. “The past World Figure Skating Championships is a second-rate tournament, because there were no strongest ones,” she said, arguing that the Russian skaters performed the most difficult elements, thanks to which they occupied a leading position.

The deputy added that if the Olympic Games are held without the participation of Russians, “then the spectacle will be so-so.”

In January, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It is clarified that only athletes who did not support the special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will get a chance to take part in international tournaments.
