The Russian national football team named the starting line-up for the friendly match with Iraq
The coaching staff of the Russian national football team, headed by Valery Karpin, named the team’s starting lineup for the friendly match with Iraq on March 26. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Russian Football Union (RFU).
Daniil Fomin was chosen as the team captain. The place at the gate will be taken by Sergey Pesyakov. Alexander Silyanov, Ruslan Litvinov, Maxim Osipenko, Daniil Denisov, Danil Glebov, Danil Prutsev, Ivan Oblyakov, Sergey Pinyaev and Alexander Sobolev will also take the field from the first minutes.
The Russians will meet with the players from Iraq at the Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg. The game will start at 18:00 Moscow time. For the Russian national team, this will be the first home match since November 2021.
On March 23, the team played a draw with the Iranian national team. The meeting ended with the score 1:1.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
