The head coach of the Russian freestyle skiing team Alexander Pongilsky revealed the details of the death of the 2021 world champion in ski acrobatics Pavel Krotov. His words are quoted by TASS.
“The news came as a shock. Relatives said that he died in his sleep on the night from Friday to Saturday, ”Pongilsky said. He stressed that the autopsy would be performed on March 27. The coach added that Krotov did not compete in the 2022 Olympic season because he had a knee injury, but he planned to return to the sport.
Krotov died on March 26 at the age of 30. The cause of the athlete’s death is not known.
Krotov is the 2021 world champion in team acrobatics. He also has a bronze medal in the world championship in singles and two golds in the World Cup. As part of the Russian national team, the athlete took part in the 2014 and 2018 Olympic Games.
